New Zealand Apples and Pears Conference 2021

Building Resilience in Challenging Times

Toitoi: Hawke’s Bay Arts & Events Centre, Hastings

11-13 August 2021

We’re looking forward to welcoming the industry to Hawke’s Bay for our first conference post-lockdown.

Our focus for the NZ Apples and Pears Conference 2021

The theme for the 2021 pipfruit sector conference is Building Resilience in Challenging Times, and haven’t the past 13 months been challenging? Who would have thought at Christmas 2019 that a global pandemic would shut economies - including New Zealand - down, impacting access to a reliable labour force, and disrupting logistics and markets.

Resilience and preparing for the future

As essential businesses, in 2020 our members continued to operate through a re-engineering of systems and processes, delivering the New Zealand economy much needed domestic and export returns and ensuring continuity of food supply. In 2021, the industry has been significantly affected by border closures and a constrained labour supply.

Our NZ Apples and Pears Conference 2021 programme will focus on the learnings from COVID and how we must respond in a world turned upside-down by the pandemic. We will look at ongoing challenges and strategies to address these; the workforce and orchard of the future; the transition to automation and sustainability; loss of chemistry; future of assurances; and the changing role that Prevar will play in our future.

There will be plenty of opportunities for networking with industry colleagues and friends, as well as suppliers and government representatives.

We look forward to seeing you in Hastings for our NZ Apples and Pears Conference 2021 and AGM.

The NZ Plant Protection Society conference is being held in Napier 10-12 August, and is aligned with the NZ Apples and Pears conference.
